About This Spot

Stepping into Holy Cow feels like slipping into a cherished part of Red Hook’s local fabric—unpretentious, familiar, with a relaxed pace that invites you to linger just a little longer. This small ice cream shop hums with a quiet warmth, where the bright display cabinets filled with playful alabaster cow figurines hint at the joy tucked behind the counter. The interior is simple, cozy, and well-loved, offering a respite during any season, while outside a handful of picnic tables create a casual gathering spot perfectly suited for savoring a scoop under the open sky.

The atmosphere here is friendly in the way only a well-rooted neighborhood favorite can be. Staff members carry a genuine welcome, their easy conversations and good humor rounding out the experience like a familiar tune. Holy Cow’s charm lies not just in its exceptionally crafted ice cream—but in how approachable and unassuming it all feels. It’s the kind of place where the everyday delight of a fresh, cool treat is accessible, with a touch of quirkiness in flavors and toppings that keep coming back customers eager to explore.

Flavors at Holy Cow don’t just satisfy a sweet craving—they tell a story of careful attention and playful creativity. From the comforting warmth of a rich hot chocolate to the classic thrill of a chocolate-peanut butter combo dotted with sprinkles, each bite feels thoughtfully composed. The shop embraces its local roots and community spirit by offering generous portions at prices that reflect a sincere appreciation for its neighbors and visitors alike. Whether you’re drawn by the nostalgic charm of a strawberry sundae, the unexpected crunch in a creamsicle flavor burst, or the simple joy of an old-fashioned hot fudge sundae, Holy Cow invites you to slow down and savor the moment.

This is a spot where time feels a little looser, conversations flow more naturally, and the experience is as much about the company and setting as it is about the ice cream. It’s a reminder that small pleasures matter—the way a scoop shared at a picnic table on a sunny day can create lasting memories, and an unpretentious neighborhood staple can become a beloved tradition.

Ice cream of supreme quality and at very fair prices. Friendly, efficient staff. Location features ample parking, and the interior is nicely decorated, including a vitrine filled with alabaster figurines of cows. Containers to-go in three sizes. Ideally some seating could be added inside, but directly outside are several stationary picnic tables.

Favorite ice cream on earth!!<3 The “old lady” everyone is complaining about is so sweet, runs the place, and if you’re offended by her you must not be from NY :)

I was visiting some friends in upstate NY in Rhinebeck and I heard about this ice cream spot. There was a huge line out the door so I was curious what all the fuss was about. It's a small ice cream shop with a good selection of flavors and toppings. It was so inexpensive!! Like almost unbelievable!! And the ice cream was soo good and fresh!! It was a great experience and the staff was super friendly!

Get their ice cream! Their prices are incredibly low and the quality is incredibly high! Thank you holy cow for providing your treats to our community for all these years.

Open year round. Always delicious! Less expensive than other area dairy bars.

Fresh ice cream at great prices, in cups, cones, splits, sundaes and to-go containers. No seating indoors, but directly in front are immovable picnic tables. Easy parking in the shopping center’s parking lot. Friendly and professional staff.

Great local place for ice cream and birthday cake. A local haunt for most Northern Dutchess residents. This is a grab and go with outdoor seating only
